Hmph. [livejournal.com profile] sumirepanther noted that the journalist who published the Yuuhi news is not particularly reliable.

BUT s/he quotes Kobayashi-san as saying that it's not /that/ unusual to have a niban who is 'older' than the top - Non-chan (Kuze Seika) was 'older' than Yuri (Amami Yuuki), too.

(Non-chan was 69th class while Yuri was 73rd. Yuuhi is 78th and Yuu is 81st.)

Sounds a bit like they've been digging for precedents before making the decision, but to me it's the result that counts. :)

Yeah but that was just Yuri and her insane rise. I've never seen them do that before. Of course, Yuuhi would be a good chance to break that unwritten rule once again <3

I agree. Yuri's case was the exception, not the rule.

Yeah, I know. But that's what he said - that it has no special meaning and that it has been done before.

That's why I said it sounds like they were .digging. for precedents before making the decision, as if they prepared to answer this question, which shows they don't really consider it to be the rule, either.

It's true that there's not REALLY that much history to draw from in the 35 or so years that the "Top Star" heirarchy has been in place. It's most likely happened before the big "boom". I mean, the company has had a lot happen in its 93 years. If there was a time when musumeyaku had lead roles, a "nibante" equivalent being older than the lead undoubtedly happened.

Eh... the matter is if this guy quotes Kobayashi-san correctly. And I have had enough previous experiences with his "according to the internal source" and "Ueda-san (the previous chairman) said" which turned out to be completely untrue or groundless in the end. I always get alarmed when he brings up things like this.

Wow, I see your point now. I just didn't believe someone would dare to publish an incorrect quote of the head of the board of directors. :-/

Now I'm slightly worried again. I guess we'll see when Yuuhi's first role in a Hanagumi show is announced which way she's going.

Personally, I'm going to wait until they parade down the Okaidan on the first day of Arabia of Love and Death / Red Hot Sea.

HANE talks, they say

I wasn't very conscious about that point until Asian Winds! I thought Yumiko was doing a nibente role in the parade. But then I found so many Yumiko fans dumbstruck and distressed. They saw the hane she carried on the back was not that of nibante, and was as small as those of Yuu's and Rantomu's. Her fans took it as a clear sign of... Well, we all know what followed.

This morning I was so happy to see Yumiko finally carry a proper nibante-hane, large and georgeous, in the parade of Miroir in the Yuki shonichi digest on Sky Stage.

Hmmmm... interesting. I hadn't realized she didn't get nibante status for that show. But also, wouldn't a lot of the focus have been on Fuu-chan, since it was her last show? I could see them doing that instead of worrying about sorting everyone out after Yuu's move.

Anyway, I'm glad to hear about Yumiko now. I think she was an interesting choice for Yukigumi, but she seems to be fitting in there very well.
